Estimates show that changes to a circular economy could help reduce 3.7 billion tons of greenhouse gases by 2050. It can also improve resilience to climate change and create incentives for private sector actors to engage in climate action. Reaching nationally determined contribution (NDC) targets can be substantially promoted by a more efficient use of resources. The LEDS GP´s Working Group on Resource Efficiency promotes practices that link resource efficiency with NDCs and LTSs.

At COP25 in Madrid, the LEDS GP facilitated a side event for participants to exchange on their experiences with designing and implementing efficient low-emission production systems and how these can contribute to NDC goals.

Circular economy solutions have multiple benefits: they help build profitable operations while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste. The LEDS GP seeks to elevate and scale existing solutions, always adapting them to the local context: Through the Climate Helpdesk, the LEDS GP supported the Mexican and Guatemalan Chapters of the World Business Council to adapt a self-assessment circular economy tool, which was originally developed by GIZ and CEADS for the case of Argentina.
