AFOLU Regional Initiatives

Regional Initiatives

How We Work

We focus on promoting and facilitating knowledge sharing and the adoption of tools and solutions for climate resilient, low emission development across the agriculture, forestry and other land use sectors. The AFOLU working group promotes cross-sectoral collaboration and empowers AFOLU practitioners to raise ambition towards NDC goals.

Our activities include organizing regional workshops and webinars, providing technical assistance, developing case studies and guidance documents, coordinating peer learning, and establishing and facilitating communities of practitioners interested in specific implementation topics. Currently, implementation is focused within two Communities of Practice (CoPs), the Livestock CoP and Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) CoP, led by the Africa LEDS Partnership (AfLP).

Communities of Practice

Communities of practice are spaces for members interested in a specific topic to regularly learn from peers, exchange knowledge, co-design solutions, receive technical assistance, connect with others, and pilot ideas. Communities of practice are demand driven and evolve dynamically to meet their members’ needs.

Soil Organic Carbon Community of Practice (Africa)

Coordinated by our AfLP and focuses on:

Closing the gap between policy and regulation on the national level and best practice on the farm level to support evidence-based implementation and raise ambitions for Soil Organic Carbon in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) as well s their Long-term Climate Mitigation Strategies (LTS).

Livestock Community of Practice (Africa)

Coordinated by our AfLP and focuses on:

Building capacity among decision makers, research institutions, and practitioners to design and implement Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and long-term low emissions, climate-resilient development pathways (LTS) in the livestock sector across Africa.

How to Get Involved?

Join the Soil Organic Carbon or Livestock CoP by completing GCAP registration form linked below. As you complete the GCAP registration form, indicate which CoPs you would like to join. By becoming a GCAP and CoP member, you will receive regular updates on events, activities, and opportunities related to GCAP and your CoPs.

Coordinating Bodies

The AFOLU Communities of Practice are currently coordinated by SSN. SSN works closely with a core group of experts tied to each community of practice.
