Conversion of the Coal Activity Toward a Sustainable Activity – Testimonial
This testimony presents the main results of the technical assistance provided to the State Secretariat for Climate Change of the Misiones Province of Argentina as part of the Climate Change State Secretariat of the Province of Misiones in Argentina as part of the GCAP Climate Action Accelerator support support from GCAP’s Climate Action Accelerator, the Regional Platform for Low Emission and Development Strategies (LEDS LAC), the Bioenergy Community of Strategies (LEDS LAC), the Platform’s Bioenergy Community of Practice, and the GCAP Climate Action Accelerator.
The Climate Action Accelerator is a service offered by the LEDS LAC Platform that provides rapid, high-quality, short-term technical assistance to developing countries. It is a
funded by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
LEDS LAC is a network of leading transformational organizations and individuals working on the promotion, design and implementation of LEDS for resilient and low-emission development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Addressing the challenges posed by climate change requires the integration of mitigation and adaptation objectives in the policies and mitigation and adaptation objectives into development policies and strategies. At the same time, achieving the economic and social economic and social aspirations of our countries demands that these challenges be taken into account.
For this reason, LEDS LAC promotes the formulation and implementation of national, sub-national and sectoral strategies that respond to the triple objective of national, sub-national and sectoral strategies that respond at the same time to promote development, reduce emissions and increase resilience.
These Low Emission and Resilient Development Strategies (LEDS) enable countries to move towards sustainable development and meet their climate commitments.
For this reason, LEDS LAC supports the leaders who are driving change from governments, civil society, the private sector and the international community. Among the activities and services that LEDS LAC provides include the Climate Action Accelerator.
The Community of Practice on Bioenergy (CoP BioE) was launched in 2016 as a space to exchange experiences, build capacity, and collaborate among people, organizations, and countries, with the aim of promoting the development of policies and business models for sustainable bioenergy development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Asociación Sustentar coordinates the Assistance Accelerator, which supports the LEDS LAC Platform in the general coordination of the technical assistance service.
In this context, the Secretary of State for Climate Change of the province of Misiones in Argentina requested support from the Resource Efficiency Working Group of the LEDS LAC Platform (GTER) to analyze the potential of biomass generated in the region and that is being wasted, in order to determine alternatives for sustainable end products and technologies that support the generation of new income with less environmental and climate impact, taking advantage of biomass and caring for native forests. In response to this request, the LEDS LAC Platform coordinated the hiring of Gustavo Azzimonti Renzo to provide the technical assistance service.
