Incentive Strategy for the Purchase and Use of Electric Bicycles as an Alternative to Promote Sustainable Mobility in Bogota
Colombia is committed to climate change mitigation and the transition to zero-emission mobility technologies. However, by December 2023, motorcycles accounted for 80% of registered vehicles in the country and 20% in Bogota, exacerbating problems of emissions, traffic accidents and noise pollution, underscoring the need to address these negative externalities.
Faced with this challenge, Bogota, with its extensive network of bike paths and high bicycle use, sees electric bicycles as a viable solution to counteract the growing use of motorcycles. This technical assistance focused on structuring an incentive strategy to promote the purchase and use of electric bicycles in the city, seeking to reduce the use of motorcycles and encourage a modal shift towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
