Simplified Approach for Estimating Impacts of Electricity Generation (SIMPACTS)
9am, October 02nd, 2015
The Simplified Approach for Estimating Impacts of Electricity Generation (SIMPACTS) estimates and
quantifies health and environmental damage costs, so-called ‘externalities’, of different electricity generation technologies. This tool is particularly useful for comparative analyses of fossil, nuclear and renewable electricity generation, siting of new power plants or cost effectiveness of environmental mitigation policies.
Key questions addressed:
- What are the impacts of power generation technologies such as fossil, nuclear, hydro, on public health, buildings and agricultural products?
Sample data inputs:
- Pollutant emissions rates
- Population density
- Source location
- Population
- Meteorological data
Sample quantitative outputs:
- Health impacts
- Monetized impacts
